- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 4-6 tablespoons ice water
- 6 cups thinly sliced tart apples (Granny Smith or Fuji)
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
Instructions
- Prepare the crust: Mix flour, salt, and sugar. Cut in cold butter until crumbly. Add ice water until dough forms. Chill for 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Prepare filling: Toss sliced apples with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice.
- Roll out half of the dough and fit into a pie dish. Fill with apple mixture.
- Roll out the remaining dough and cover the pie. Trim and crimp edges.
- Cut slits in top crust for steam to escape. Bake for 45-50 minutes until golden.
Notes
- Use cold butter and ice water for flaky crust.
- Chill dough before rolling for best results.
- Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream.
