Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup warm milk
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 tsp)
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup sweet cheese filling (cream cheese softened)
- 1/2 cup currant jam
- For glaze: 1/4 cup powdered sugar, 1 tbsp milk
Instructions
- Activate yeast: In warm milk, add a teaspoon of sugar and yeast, let sit until frothy, about 5 minutes.
- In a large bowl, combine flour, remaining sugar, and salt. Add melted butter, beaten egg, and yeast mixture. Mix until dough forms.
- Knead on a floured surface for about 8 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Punch down dough and roll into a rectangle on floured surface.
- Spread cheese filling over the dough, then spread currant jam evenly over the cheese.
- Roll up tightly, pinch seams closed. Cut into 1.5-inch slices.
- Arrange slices on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
- Mix powdered sugar and milk to make glaze. Drizzle over buns before serving.
Notes
- Ensure yeast is activated properly for a fluffy texture.
- You can substitute currant jam with raspberry or strawberry jam.
- Serve warm for best flavor and texture.
