  • Total Time: 1 hour 45 minutes
  • Yield: 12 buns

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 tsp)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup sweet cheese filling (cream cheese softened)
  • 1/2 cup currant jam
  • For glaze: 1/4 cup powdered sugar, 1 tbsp milk

Instructions

  1. Activate yeast: In warm milk, add a teaspoon of sugar and yeast, let sit until frothy, about 5 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, remaining sugar, and salt. Add melted butter, beaten egg, and yeast mixture. Mix until dough forms.
  3. Knead on a floured surface for about 8 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour.
  4. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Punch down dough and roll into a rectangle on floured surface.
  5. Spread cheese filling over the dough, then spread currant jam evenly over the cheese.
  6. Roll up tightly, pinch seams closed. Cut into 1.5-inch slices.
  7. Arrange slices on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Mix powdered sugar and milk to make glaze. Drizzle over buns before serving.

Notes

  • Ensure yeast is activated properly for a fluffy texture.
  • You can substitute currant jam with raspberry or strawberry jam.
  • Serve warm for best flavor and texture.
