Ingredients

  • 1 large head of cabbage
  • 1 pound ground beef or turkey
  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Olive oil for cooking

Instructions

  1. Core the cabbage and blanch the leaves in boiling water for 2 minutes until pliable. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a skillet, sauté chopped onion and garlic in olive oil until translucent.
  3. In a bowl, combine ground meat, cooked rice, sautéed onions and garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
  4. Wrap a portion of the meat mixture in each cabbage leaf, folding the sides to secure.
  5. Place the rolls seam-side down in a baking dish, pour tomato sauce over the top.
  6. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 30 minutes until cooked through and sauce is bubbling.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian version, substitute meat with lentils or mushrooms.
