Ingredients
Scale
- 1 large head of cabbage
- 1 pound ground beef or turkey
- 1 cup cooked rice
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Instructions
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully peel individual cabbage leaves and blanch them in boiling water for 2 minutes. Drain and set aside.
- In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Sauté onion and garlic until translucent.
- In a bowl, combine ground meat, cooked rice, sautéed onions and garlic, salt, and pepper.
- Place a scoop of the filling onto each cabbage leaf and roll up, tucking in the sides.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Spread some tomato sauce in the bottom of a baking dish.
- Arrange cabbage rolls seam-side down in the dish. Cover with remaining tomato sauce.
- Bake uncovered for 30-35 minutes until heated through and sauce is bubbling.
Notes
- You can substitute ground beef with turkey or chicken for a leaner option.
- For added flavor, sprinkle with fresh herbs before baking.
