Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 3 cups peeled, sliced apples (Granny Smith or Fuji)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a bowl. Cut in butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Press half into the prepared dish to form the crust.
  3. In a separate bowl, toss sliced apples with cinnamon, brown sugar, and nutmeg. Spread over the crust.
  4. Mix remaining crumb mixture and sprinkle evenly over the apples.
  5. Bake for 40-45 minutes until golden and bubbly. Let cool before slicing.
